This is restore & recovery of RAC database running on 3 nodes.
While restore & recover database we allocate channel to all Instances for Load balance.
Oracle Database version is 11.2.0.3.
Steps to perform restore & recovery.
Restore spfile
Restore controlfile
Bring all the instances in mount state (do not put cluster_database=false)
Allocate channel using multiple instances
Restore database
Recover database
Open the database in resetlogs in one node
Open the database on other nodes
Now copy spfile to all nodes & rename according to it.
------Restore controlfile
Mount database on All nodes & make sure cluster_database parameter is set to TRUE
----------Restore database.
---------recover database.
---------Open database in resetlogs on first instance & rest with normal.

Excellent document Jignesh.
Hi
Very good blog.
I have a question regarding above post. Why you set cluster database = true? Is it important? When I restored rac database I set cluster database=false and after recovered I set cluster database to true. Is my method is wrong under any particular circumstances?
In 10g Before restore , folks used to set CLUSTER_DATABASE=FALSE. but this is in 11r2 , which can use channel from All instances.
Make sure you set CLUSTER_DATABASE=FALSE before recovery
Hi Jignesh,
Can you advise me on how to get rid of ORA -1180 due to presence of old incarnation of SYSTEM datafiel (file# 1)
during rman restore database (point in time attempted on QA DB)
My backup consists of incrementally updated level 0 with level 1 , followed by controlfile and spfile backups,
followed by archivelog backups of last 8 hours .
backup {
recover copy of database with tag 'QADB_INC_IMAGE' ;
backup incremental level 1 format '/backup/QADB/db_inc_1_%U.rmn'
for recover of copy with TAG 'QADB_INC_IMAGE' ;
backup format '/backup/QADB/ctl_spfile_%U.rmn' current controlfile spfile;
backup format '/backup/QADB/arc_%U.rmn' archivelog from time 'sysdate-1/3' ;
}
I had run the script 3/4 times before dropping a table, attempting :
1) restored the controlfile from backup taken BEFORE the drop table in nomount mode (shut all other instances)
2) set until time
set until time ( roughly minutes before the table drop),
3) run RMAN restore and recover database:
BUT i get the error
createing datafiel 1 -- error ORA-1180 .
there was no permissions issue: we are using 11.2.0.3 /ent/ RAC 2 nodes -- with ASM.
When i used rman target /
checked : ilst incarnation command,
I found "parent" record with date "22 JAN 2014" followed by my CURRENT incarnation.
Can you advise how to get rid of the older incarnation data from the RMAN repository?
